Hello friends of Broadmor's Art Masterpiece and welcome to the 2024-2025 academic year! We have been busy behind the scenes planning lessons, ordering supplies and scheduling classrooms.
Please attend our Art Masterpiece Volunteer Training session on Wednesday, August 21 at 6:00pm in the Broadmor Library. Remember that all classroom volunteers must be approved by and registered through the district.
Art Masterpiece is a nationally-recognized art enrichment program that uses reproductions of fine works of art to promote art literacy in school-age children. Dependent upon volunteer "Art Guides," the program supplements the presentation of visual arts in the classroom. Lessons emphasize observation and discussion. Creatively supports curriculum in science, math, social studies and language arts.
How the program works: A one-hour lesson consists of critical viewing and visual evaluation of the art piece, background of the artist, and a hands–on activity. The purpose is not to teach specific art techniques, but rather to increase the child's awareness of art and enhancing visual literacy. The elements of art (texture, color, line, shape) and principles of design are introduced, in fun ways that children can easily grasp.
